Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker: J.J. Abrams Opens Up About The Emperor’s Return
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s director, J.J. Abrams has opened up about the Emperor’s return in the upcoming Star Wars movie which he confirmed would happen.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s trailer shocked everybody when it ended with a rather familiar evil laugh.
This laugh belonged to, of course, the Emperor, otherwise known as Darth Sidious.
This got fans very excited indeed because he supposedly died in Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi at the hands of his own apprentice, Darth Vader.
It was an iconic moment and has gone down in cinema history, however, could he really have survived that fall and subsequent explosion?
It doesn’t seem very likely, although that laugh in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s trailer says otherwise.
He started off by talking about the moment when Emperor Palpatine actor, Ian McDiarmid, walked out on stage at this year’s Star Wars Celebration.
“It’s amazing that he got to walk out here today and no one knew,” director J.J. Abrams reflected in a recent interview with Empire Magazine.
He continued: ”The reaction that people had to him only made me grateful that all [those] who could have told and Tweeted and posted didn’t. It was as much fun to watch as it was to work with him.”
This does seem to confirm that the Emperor will actually appear in the movie, but it just remains to be seen how that will actually happen.
There have been some suggestions that it’ll be some sort of hologram. Others have floated the idea that he could be a Force ghost, which would be a first for Siths.
There are a few more outlandish theories out there, the most farfetched being that the Emperor’s evil spirit has actually possessed Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.
Unfortunately, we won’t get an answer until the movie comes out, but there’ll be much theorising until then.
Meanwhile, Vanity Fair’s recent article on Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker confirmed that the Knights of Ren would also be making a comeback in the movie, which will please many fans of the space opera saga.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to hit UK theatres on December 19th, 2019.
