Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s J.J. Abrams Says Rian Johnson Set Up ‘Wonderful Things’ For His Movie

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker isn’t too far away from release. It’s literally only days away from coming into our cinemas and I’m pretty sure that many of you, like me, cannot wait.

Anyway, the movie’s director J.J. Abrams has been talking about the movie, and he actually took the time to praise what Rian Johnson did with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

During a recent interview (via CheatSheet) Abrams spoke about how Johnson did “wonderful things” for the Star Wars franchise with his movie.

Here’s what he had to say about his fellow Star Wars director in full below:

The fact is that what Rian Johnson had done in Star Wars: The Last Jedi had set up some things that were sort of wonderful things for the story. One of the things being that the cast was separated. The characters weren’t together for the entire essentially. So this was the first time that the group got to be together.

However, this wasn’t all that Abrams had to say, as he went on to talk about how working with Lawrence Kasdan was like on Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker was after having worked with the Star Wars writer on The Force Awakens.

“Because we had worked on The Force Awakens, [screenwriter] Larry Kasdan and I and Michelle Rejwan and Kathy [Kennedy], the producers, we had talked about quite a few things back in the day,” Abrams said.

He added: “So it was a bit of sort of picking up where we left off.”
