Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Taiwanese subtitles for the brilliant trailer we recently saw apparently reveals plot spoilers involving Luke and Snoke’s scenes.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s trailer may have revealed a bit more than people would have liked. Rian Johnson did warn us beforehand, however, we just couldn’t stop ourselves from watching a shiny new Star Wars trailer, and it was really good. There are keys scenes in the trailer which many people have been discussing since, namely the bit at the beginning of the trailer when Snoke says, “When I found you, I saw raw untamed power,” the moment when Luke says, “This is not going to go the way you think,” and finally, when Snoke says, “Fulfill your destiny.”
According to SleepingAran on Reddit, the Taiwanese subtitles for The Last Jedi’s trailer reveals the gender of who Snoke and Luke are talking to, and the reveal raises some perplexing questions. The English language keeps these moments gender-neutral, which adds to the mystery. However, Taiwanese doesn’t.
So, when Snoke says, “When I found you,” he’s actually talking to a female (possibly Rey). When Luke says, “This is not going to go the way you think,” he’s apparently talking to a male. Finally, when Snoke says, “Fulfill your destiny,” near the end of the trailer, he’s talking to a man. I had presumed he was talking to Rey in that scene, but apparently not.
To be perfectly honest, SleepingAran’s findings don’t constitute much of a spoiler since there is a myriad of possibilities. Snoke could be talking to Rey or even Leia at the beginning of the trailer, and he could be talking to Luke, Kylo Ren or even Poe or Finn at the end of the trailer. Hell, he could even be talking to Chewie for all we know. However, the trailer had been leaning heavily towards the idea that Snoke was referring to Rey during that sequence.
Also, we should approach these Taiwanese subtitles with caution because the likelihood of the translators knowing much about the movie is very low. I’m pretty sure that Lucasfilm would have kept plot points to a minimum with whoever subtitled the trailer in Taiwanese. They probably know just as much (or as little) as we do and just played around with gender as they saw fit.
