Star Trek: Discovery Has Been Renewed For A Second Season

CBS has confirmed that Star Trek: Discovery will be getting a second season which is wonderful news.

I’m going to be completely and utterly honest here: I was never really a Star Trek guy… that is until I started watching Star Trek: Discovery. I always considered myself to be a Star Wars man, and I still very much am. I enjoyed the Star Trek movies and have watched the odd episode here and there, but I never really saw myself becoming a true fan of the Star Trek world. Discovery changed all of that for me. I love the series and eagerly await the next episode and find myself interested in the original series and movies. This is why I was so happy to hear that CBS has renewed the show for a second season. Check out their tweet confirming this below (the video only seems to work in the US, unfortunately).

Star Trek: Discovery follows disgraced Star Fleet officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) who finds herself working onboard the mysterious USS Discovery which is run by the equally as mysterious Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs). The series is set 10 years before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise and depicts the violent war with the Klingon race. That’s the barebones of the series’ plot, but I don’t want to spoil too much because I highly recommend you go watch Discovery for yourselves. Episodes air weekly on Netflix and it’s something that I look forward to every Monday (guess what I’ll be watching this evening).

The announcement that Star Trek: Discovery would be renewed for a second season was followed up by a statement from Marc DeBevoise, who’s the President and Chief Operating Officer of CBS Interactive:

“In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise. This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the ‘Star Trek’ legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.”

So it’s all good news on the Star Trek front. In other TV news, Marvel’s The Punisher had an explosive trailer and we learnt that it would be made available on Netflix on November 17th.
