Star Trek 4 Will Be Helmed By S.J. Clarkson Making Her The First Woman To Direct A Star Trek Movie

Star Trek 4 is happening, and Paramount Pictures has announced that the movie will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, who’ll be the first woman to ever direct a Star Trek movie!

Star Trek 4 is happening, and Paramount Pictures has begun to put the thrusters on the movie by announcing the film’s new director, and it’s an excellent choice. According to Deadline, British director, S.J. Clarkson will helm the next Star Trek movie, which makes her the first ever woman to direct a Star Trekir?t=edlauder 21&l=am2&o=2&a=B00I0YZN8C movie. The Star Trek franchise has spanned over 13 movies now, and it’s taken until now for it to have its first female director.

This is not so much a problem with the franchise, more a problem with Hollywood as a whole. Women just haven’t been given the opportunity to helm big Hollywood tentpoles like this, and don’t give me that, “Just hire the right person for the job” rubbish. Are you telling me that a woman couldn’t have done a better job at directing the last Justice League or the last James Bond movie? I’m pretty sure that Kathryn Bigelow or any other female director could have made a much better Justice League movie than what Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon gave us.

Clarkson has already made a name for herself in the world of superhero TV shows having helmed the pilots of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Defenders for Netflix. She also directed episodes of Vinyl, Dig and Orange Is the New Black.

There’s been lots of talk about the upcoming Star Trekir?t=edlauder 21&l=am2&o=2&a=B00I0YZN8C movie. Apparently, Quentin Tarantino pitched an idea for an R-rated Star Trek movie to Abrams who loved it so much that he brought together a writers room to try and get the script done. However, it doesn’t look like Star Trek 4 will be the movie that Tarantino pitched. That film will come later down the line. What we do know about Star Trek 4 is that Chris Hemsworth is set to return to the franchise and will be joined by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, who’ll be reprising their respective roles as Captain James Kirk and Spock.
