Sony Pictures Wants To Share Spider-Man Movies With Disney For Years To Come

The recent Spider-Man movies have been pretty great, and they seem to have benefitted from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ collaboration.

These Spider-Man movies, by which I mean Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, have been some of the best Spider-Man movies ever made.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is especially good and I really enjoyed Far From Home.

However, there was a moment when it looked like Sony Pictures and Disney weren’t going to be able to renovate the Spider-Man movie contract.

This got a lot of Marvel and Spider-Man fans worried because it meant the future of the MCU and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies was uncertain.

Thankfully, they managed to work things out and Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are working on the next Spider-Man movie together.

This means that it looks like Sony and Disney will be working together for quite some time on these movies.

That’s great news and Disney co-Chairman Alan Horn and Sony chief Tom Rothman recently opened up about the relationship during a recent roundtable talk with The Hollywood Reporter.

They both indicated that the two rival studios would continue working on Spider-Man movies for a while yet, with Horn admitting that the fans played a huge part in renegotiating the deal.

The fanbase, which is important to all of us, seemed to really respond to what Tom Holland and the Spider-Man crew had done before. And they like it. They like the fact that the MCU and Kevin Feige were involved. And we heard feedback out there that suggested joining forces once again was probably a really good idea.

Sony’s Rothman then went one step further by saying that he hoped the agreement would continue for a while longer.

I hope so. I think this was a classic win-win-win. I think it was a win for Sony. I think it was a win for Disney. I think it was a win for fans and moviegoers. The only thing I would say is that news cycles and the rhythm of negotiations don’t necessarily overlap… I think we would have gotten there and the news got ahead of some things.
