Why Did Ruby Rose Leave Batwoman After One Season? Who Will Replace Her?

It was revealed that Ruby Rose would be leaving The CW’s Batwoman after just one season, which was a shock. But why did she leave?

This was huge news mainly because it was just so strange.

People leave shows all the time, however, it’s very rare that the show’s lead exits after just one season.

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of anybody who’s done this in the past.

Anyway, it was announced that Ruby Rose would be leaving The CW after just one season.

She actually released a very heartfelt statement about the whole thing.

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” said Rose in a statement.

“This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

She continued: “I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created.

“Thank you, Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me.”

Rose finished: “Thank you to everyone who made season one a success — I am truly grateful.”

It was then revealed by The CW that they were going to recast the role.

Here’s what they said about Rose leaving the show and recasting the role of Batwoman:

Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.

It really got me wondering about what went on behind the scenes.

It’s pretty well-documented that The CW’s DC Comics projects are winding down.

Arrowverse is very popular, but shows such as Batwoman and Supergirl haven’t been getting great ratings.

Personally, I’ve been falling behind on the shows.

I’ve only really been watching Batwoman and The Flash – both which I think are very good.

I’ve also been watching the crossover events, although I thought this year’s Crisis On Infinite Earths to be a bit lacklustre.

Rose could have seen the writing on the wall and decided to leave the project before it got cancelled.

That said, it does seem as though The CW is 100% behind the show.

They announced that there would be a second season and even revealed they are looking to recast the role with another LGBTQ actor.

Was Rose offered another job?

Therefore, there are only three other possibilities: Rose was either fired from the project, offered another job, or decided to leave due to personal issues.

Honestly, I’m not certain that would have been fired, and I haven’t heard any word of Rose struggling in her personal life.

However, she doesn’t have to make everything public and there’s no knowing what’s going on in her private life. That’s why it’s private.

Therefore, I’m wondering whether she landed a role in something – a new movie or another TV show – and she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

That could be possible, yet if that were the case, they might have said something about it.

What it means is that we’re going to have a new Batwoman.

In fact, there have been plenty of interesting names mentionned already.

For instance, one of the names who’s seemingly jumped to the top of the list is Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz.

I would love to see her play Batwoman, and she’s already been making jokes about it on Twitter.
