Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn Is In Talks To Play The Villain In Captain Marvel

Ben Mendelsohn is famous for playing villains such as Orson Krennic in Rogue One and he’s currently in talks to play the bad guy in Captain Marvel.

Ben Mendelsohn is quickly becoming Hollywood’s go-to guy when they’re looking for someone to deliver a fine performance as their film’s villain. Mendelsohn played Director Orson Krennice in last year’s Rogue One, yet before that, he had already made a name for himself playing disreputable characters such as Payne in Slow West, Fraser in Black Sea, Neville Love in Starred Up, Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises and Andrew ‘Pope’ Cody in Animal Kingdom. The Aussie actor is now reported to be in talks with Marvel about playing the villain in their upcoming Captain Marvel.

According to Variety Captain Marvel’s directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, are in talks with Ben Mendelson, who starred in their movie Mississipi Grind, to potentially play the villain in their eagerly awaited Marvel movie. At the moment it’s rumoured that he could be playing the leader of the Skrulls, an alien race of shapeshifters who have caused the Avengers a lot of trouble in the comics.

At is stands, the only confirmed actors in Captain Marvel are Brie Larson, who’ll be playing the titular character (a.k.a. Carol Danvers), and Samuel L. Jackson who’ll be reprising his role of Nick Fury. The movie’s also reported to be set in the 90s, which will be an interesting setting for a Marvel movie, which have all up until this point been set in the present day (of sorts).

Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers was an Air Force pilot who’s DNA was altered during an alien attack and she was imbued with superhuman abilities: superhuman strength, the power of flight and energy projection. She’s easily one of Marvel’s most fascinating heroes and it’s about time that she gets her own movie. Hopefully, Captain Marvel will follow on from Wonder Woman and be yet another terrific female-led superhero movie.
