Noah Hawley Teases That His Doctor Doom Movie May Be Inspired By Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Noah Hawley has recently revealed that his mysterious Doctor Doom movie may take inspiration from Marvel’s first Captain America movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Noah Hawley is one of those people that just loves to have way too much work on his plate. Not only is the guy working on the second season of FX’s superhero TV show, Legion, but he’s also getting started on his directorial debut with Pale Blue Dot, which will star Annihilation’s Natalie PortmanIf all of this wasn’t enough, he’s also said to be working the script for a mysterious Doctor Doom movie.

Up until this point, not much was known about this film and everything we were hearing was rumours and speculation. However, during a recent interview with The Observer, Hawley confirmed that he is indeed working on the script for a Doctor Doom movie and revealed that it’ll be inspired by Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“What’s interesting to me about Doom’s character is he’s the king of an Eastern European country and is there a version of this that is more of a political thriller that mixes genre?”, he said. He went on to cite Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a source of inspiration since it’s a comic book movie that also moonlights as a political thriller. He noted that this was something the film “did really well, which was kind of make a Cold War thriller movie out of a superhero movie”.

Hawley has already tackled the superhero genre with Legion

“This is different than that, but it does have this idea of, and I don’t want to say too much about it, but it is a mixture of genres”, he revealed. He then added that “the mandate is not to re-launch the Fantastic Four franchise as much as it is to take this fascinating and under-served character and really build a movie about him”.

However, Hawley isn’t sure how this Disney deal will affect his plans for a Doctor Doom movie and knows about as much as we do as far as that is concerned. “That’s not clear to me yet,” he said. “I haven’t had any larger Marvel-based conversations about if they have plans for the X-Men universe or if they have plans for their other Fox-controlled comic properties. I would have to imagine there’s a plan in a drawer somewhere.”
