A New Scream Movie Is Now In Development

They’re making another Scream movie! This is wonderful news. Why, you ask? Because I love Scream! I scream. You scream. We all love Scream!

Even after the passing of the late great horror director, Wes Craven, I find it really heartwarming that the Scream franchise has a chance to live on. It’s Wes’ legacy and his gift to us.

This news comes from Bloody Disgusting, who reported that Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group is currently in the process of developing the next Scream movie, which will be based on the franchise created by Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson.

This will be the fifth movie in the Scream franchise and there was even a TV series on MTV which ran for two seasons before being cancelled.

What’s not clear is whether this upcoming Scream movie will be part of the same series of movies, or whether they’ll just be rebooting the franchise.

I hope, for Craven’s sake, that they opt to keep it in the same universe and make it a genuinely good continuation of the Scream mythos.

It would be a shame of Spyglass to take the Scream rights and then ruin the franchise.

However, Scream isn’t the only horror franchise Spyglass has got its hands on.

They also bought the Hellraiser movie rights and they’re remaking the first movie, which is being written by David S. Goyer (Blade II, Batman Begins, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).

Variety explained that “Spyglass Media Group was re-launched as a content company in March by former MGM topper Barber, Lantern Entertainment co-presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic and strategic investors Eagle Pictures and Cineworld Group.”
