Mark Hamill Doesn’t Care Too Much About Returning To The Star Wars Franchise

Mark Hamill was asked whether he’s going to return to the Star Wars franchise after Star Wars: The Last Jedi and he revealed that he’s lost enthusiasm for the prospect of appearing in future Star Wars films.

WARNING: There are spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi in this article.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has turned out to be one of the most divisive Star Wars films ever made, which is interesting considering how terrible the prequels were. Some people loved it (myself included), other people took against it. One of the things that some Star Wars fans got upset with was the way Luke’s character was handled. People didn’t like seeing a curmudgeonly Luke Skywalker, and then he died in the end (spoilers). However, the door’s always open for Mark Hamill’s Luke to return as a Force ghost in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX.

Naturally, people have been asking Mark whether he’d be returning to the franchise despite the fact that is character has passed on. Up until now, he’s been somewhat coy on the subject, although he did say that he’d like to return as a scary Force ghost. However, during a recent interview with ABC News, the actor revealed that he’d lost enthusiasm for the franchise since Carrie Fisher passed away and the on-screen death of Han Solo played by his fellow Star Wars co-star, Harrison Ford.

“It really has tarnished my ability to enjoy it to its fullest,” Hamill told ABC News. “You were asking earlier, ‘Are you gonna come back?’ I don’t care anymore, on that level. Because Han Solo is gone, Luke is gone.”

Hamill continued: “You just can’t get the band back together the way you wanted it to be, and it shouldn’t be that way. It is what it is. Rather than being sorry that we can’t have more of her, I’m just grateful that we had the time with her that we did.”

Maybe Hamill’s more interested in using his Star Wars money to buy lovely furniture from a place like furniture.com, rather than appearing in another Star Wars film where people will get annoyed because the Luke he’s portraying isn’t “their Luke”. At least he can sit back, relax and what the Star Wars franchise continue without him from the comfort of his own home.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit UK cinemas on December 20th, 2019.
