Kristen Wiig Will Be Playing The Villain Cheetah In Wonder Woman 2

Kristen Wiig will be playing Cheetah in Patty Jenkins’ sequel to her 2018 hit, Wonder Woman, which is set to hit cinemas in November 2019.

There have been rumours about Kirsten Wiig’s involvement in the upcoming Wonder Woman 2 for quite some time now, and it’s now finally been confirmed by Patty Jenkins herself on Twitter. Wiig will be playing Cheetah, and it looks like she’ll be the film’s villain. Pitting Wiig up against Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is a fantastic idea, and I’m sure that the DCEU will only benefit from the casting. It’ll add another layer of pathos and hopefully brilliant comedic timing to their movies that the DCEU is in serious need of right now. Have a look at Jenkins’ tweet below.

According to rumours, however, Wiig wasn’t the first choice for the role. They originally offered it to Emma Stone who passed on the opportunity. If she had taken it, she would have been one of the few people who went from starring in a Marvel movie (well, Sony Pictures actually), to then being in a DC Comics film. In the comics, Cheetah started off life as Miss Minerva who gains her new feline powers when she discovers the lost city of Urzkartaga; however, she goes a bit nuts in the process.

Fingers crossed, Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah will be a more compelling villain than David Thewlis’ Ares. I loved Wonder Woman up until the final third which just transcended into a dark CGI mess of a movie, like most DCEU films. But I’m not DC bashing. I love DC. It’s just that the recent films have left a lot to be desired. Yet, I have faith that Wonder Woman 2 will be great with Jenkins at the helm.
