Keanu Reeves’ Upcoming Two Movie Might Go Straight Streaming And Digital Release

It’s being suggested that Keanu Reeves’ next two movies might be coming straight to streaming and digital release due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Now, when I say Reeves’ next two movies, I do not mean John Wick Chapter 4 and The Matrix 4.

Those movies were originally scheduled to be released in cinemas on the same day.

It was going to be Keanu Reeves day – May 21st 2021 – however, that’s no longer going to be the case thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those movies have now been pushed, which means that Reeves’ next movies are going to be The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run and Bill & Ted Face the Music.

It’s now being suggested that these two movies might end up being released digitally as opposed to in cinemas.

Here’s what Senior Analyst at Exhibitor Relations, Jeff Bock, told CNN about upcoming movies’ releases:

We just don’t know at this point what the world will look like in June and July, but what we do know is if studios are planning to release these films in theaters, they’d have to begin advertising them right now. That’s more money that they might be risking. That’s why some of these films make a lot of sense going straight to digital.

What the article highlights is that only big blockbusters will be coming to cinemas because movie studios don’t want to end up losing too much money.

This means that movies such as Spongebob and Bill and Ted Face the Music are in danger of skipping cinema releases because they aren’t tentpole blockbusters.

Therefore, they’ll be more likely to be released on streaming platforms or digital release, unlike big tentpole movies such as Wonder Woman 1984, Tenet or Mulan.

Moreover, BoxOffice.com chief analyst Shawn Robbins reckons that Hollywood studios will want to make sure their biggest blockbusters are released in cinemas no matter what.

Unless there is a drastic setback from current plans to gradually reopen cinemas, I wouldn’t bet on it. The blockbusters remaining on the schedule have too much dependency on box office revenue.
