Justice League’s Ben Affleck Casts Doubt Over His Batman Future

During a recent interview, Ben Affleck cast doubt over whether he’ll still be playing Batman in the future. Check out what he had to say below.

I’ve already mentioned how much I like Ben Affleck’s performance as Batman. I even think I’ve said that I feel he’s one of the best versions of the Dark Knight we’ve ever seen on-screen. Michael Keaton and Christian Bale’s names often come up, yet there’s something about Affleck’s Batman that I really admire. He has the right look, the bulky frame that reminds me of the Animated Series’ Batman, and I like his slightly older and greyer version of the character. That said, Affleck’s days of playing the DC superhero are obviously numbered. He can’t play Batman forever and he’s recently cast doubt on his future in the role.

Affleck was originally supposed to star in, write and direct his own standalone Batman movie, and if all had gone to plan then he would be filming the movie now. Unfortunately for the actor/director things didn’t go quite to plan. He stepped down as the film’s writer and director and War For The Planet Of The Apes’ Matt Reeves took over the project and basically threw out all of Affleck’s hard work. Reeves’ film will be very different to the one Affleck has envisaged and we’re still unsure as to whether he’ll be playing Batman in the movie. Reeves has already claimed that he wants to make a more ‘noire-driven’ Batman movie, which sounds brilliant.

At the moment he is said to be the film’s lead, yet during a recent interview with Extra TV, Ben Affleck revealed that he’s still unsure whether he’ll end up playing Batman for 5 movies, as his contract stipulates. So far he’s played the character in 3 movies if you count Suicide Squad, yet when interviewer Mark Wright (yeah, that guy off of The Only Way Is Essex) asked him if he would end up being in 5 movies, Affleck answered, “I don’t know about that. We’ll see what the future holds”.

His whole demeanour seemed quite negative. He’s obviously still contemplating whether he wants to be the Bat for much longer. That said, he did say that playing Batman was “fucking amazing” at this year’s Comic-Con. It’s a difficult situation because of course, Affleck would want to do his very best in the role, but the movies haven’t really done his justice (see what I did there). I suppose it’s up to Justice League to showcase what a great Batman he really is.

Justice League will hit UK theatres on November 17th and The Batman is scheduled for a summer 2019 release.
