Jude Law Will Be Playing Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel

Jude Law has been casting in the Captain Marvel movie and he’ll be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell.

Captain Marvel is going to be a big milestone for Marvel’s MCU. It’s going to be their first female-led comic book movie and it’s about time. I can’t believe that it’s taken until 2019 to get this film out, but that’s the world we’ve been living in. Hopefully, things will change in the future. Wonder Woman demonstrated that a female-led comic book movie can make a ton of money and be good. Fingers crossed that Captain Marvel will solidify that fact. There’s a lot wrong with Hollywood today, but I’m glad to see that Marvel decided to greenlight this film and it looks like they’re taking it very seriously.

We already know that Brie Larson will be playing the titular Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers. We then heard that Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn is attached to play the film’s villain. Then came the news that Jude Law has also been cast in the movie and Variety reports that he’ll be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-vell, who’ll be Carol Danvers’ mentor once she’s granted her incredible powers.

Here’s what Mar-vell looks like

The film will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck whose earlier work includes Half Nelson, which is well-worth watching. The script was penned by Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman and later revisions were made by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who also wrote the scripts to the upcoming Tomb Raider movie and is working on David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens movie, Dungeons & Dragons and Sherlock Holmes 3.

Captain Marvel will be an origins story and will tell the story how Carol Danvers’, an Air Force pilot, DNA was drastically altered after coming in contacting with alien radiation leaving her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. It’s rumoured that Jude Law’s Mar-vell might save her from being exposed to this alien radiation for too long and will then help her to hone her abilities and serve as her mentor.

Captain Marvel is set to hit UK cinemas on March 8th, 2019. Are you looking forward to this movie? Let us know in the comments below.
