Joss Whedon Officially Gets a Co-Writing Credit For Justice League

As well as overseeing the film’s reshoots, Joss Whedon will also officially be credited as one of the co-writers for the upcoming Justice League.

Joss Whedon has been serving as Justice League’s director during the film’s much discussed reshoots and post-production. Whedon came on-board after Zack Snyder stepped down due to a family tragedy, however it looks like The Avengers director has been doing a lot more than just overseeing things. In Warner Bros.’ 2017 Fall Movie Preview (via Screen Rant), Whedon has a co-writing credit alongside Chris Terrio for Justice League’s screenplay. Snyder and Terrio as still credited for the film’s story.

With his familiarity at being able to put lots of superheroes together on the big screen Whedon was a natural choice for helping out on Justice League, yet this will still be Snyder’s movie. It’s unlikely that Whedon will be credited at the film’s co-director, yet his input will certainly be felt through Justice League’s dialogue and tone.

A similar thing happened with Rogue One, when Tony Gilroy was brought on to manage the film’s reshoots and tweak the script a bit, for which he received a co-writing credit yet not a co-directing credit. Gareth Edwards was still officially Rogue One’s sole director.

However, in Whedon’s case, it is looking like he’ll be having a rather big impact on the future of the DCEU since he’s already been announced to be helming the Batgirl movie and will undoubtedly be handed a more important role in the cinematic universes’ future. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him named as an Executive Producer for the DCEU, much like he was with the MCU.

Joss Whedon has already proved that he knows his stuff when it comes to comic book movies, and even though Avengers: Age of Ultron wasn’t as well received as his previous superhero flick, The Avengers, it was still miles better than what we’ve been seeing from the DCEU, barring Wonder Woman of course. We may start to see DC and Warner Bros. adopt a more Marvel-like approach to filmmaking, which their movies will benefit from immensely.
