Joker Is The First Film To Top UK Box Office For Six Weeks In Ten Years

People have been loving Todd Phillips’ Joker movie, and its box office takings have been proof of this love.

The film’s now made over $986 million at the worldwide box office at it edges ever closer to that $1 billion mark, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

However, it’s not done breaking records, and Todd Phillips’ Joker movie becomes the first film in ten years to top the UK box office for six weeks straight.

Which film did it before Joker, you ask? According to Screen Daily, that movie was James Cameron’s Avatar, which just so happens to be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

It was recently surpassed by Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, but even Endgame didn’t manage to replicate Avatar’s success at the UK box office.

The film’s now made over £66 million at the UK box office, which is pretty impressive in itself.

There’s also been talk of a Joker sequel, and it seems as though Joaquin Phoenix would be up for doing it.

Phoenix was talking to The Los Angeles Times and he was asked about a possible Joker sequel, and the actor revealed that he was thinking about it even whilst on set of Joker.

Joaquin Phoenix wants to do a Joker sequel

Long before the release or before we had any idea if it would be successful, we talked about sequels. In the second or third week of shooing, I was like, ‘Todd, can you just start working on a sequel? There’s way too much to explore.’ It was kind of in jest — but not really.

This sounds like there’s an idea there for him and Todd Phillips to do a Joker sequel, especially if they were already talking about it on set.

He also revealed that he photoshopped Joker into movie posters of the classic films that inspired the movie.

I basically said, ‘You could take this character and put him in any movie.’ So I did a photo shoot with the on-set photographer and we made posters where I Photoshopped Joker into 10 classic movies: Rosemary’s Baby, Raging Bull, Yentl. If you see it, you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’d watch that movie.’ Yentl with Joker? That would be … amazing!

This really goes make it sound like both Phoenix and Phillips would be up to do a Joker sequel if they have a good idea for it and write a fantastic script.
