People just can’t stop talking about Joker and in particular Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in the movie. People – myself included – were blown away by what Joaquin Phoenix was doing in Todd Phillips’ movie, and it seems as though the bookies were pretty impressed as well since he’s now the favourite to win the Best Actor Oscar next year.
Joaquin Phoenix really took it to the next level with his performance in the movie, and Sky Bet has now put him as the odds on favourite to win the Best Actor Oscar in 2020.
Betting on the Oscars is nothing new – people love to try and predict which actors and which films will win big on the night – but Sky Bet has given odds of 1/2 on for Joaquin Phoenix to be awarded the Best Actor Oscar on the night, so it seems like he’s pretty nailed on for the prize.
If he were to win the Oscar, it would make it his first-ever golden statue, despite having been nominated three times.

He was nominated for his work in Gladiator, Walk The Line and The Master and never won. Perhaps 2020 is his time to shine.
That said, he’ll be facing some pretty stiff competition from the likes of Adam Driver, who’s the second favourite to win the Oscar at 4/1 on, for his performance in Marriage Story.
Then there’s Leonardo DiCaprio for his turn in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, and he had odds of 7/1.
Coming in fourth place, Sky Bet has put Robert De Niro for his work in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, and he had odds of 15/2.
Antonio Banderas has an outside shot of grabbing the Best Actor award, and Sky Bet has placed him s the fifth favourite with pretty good odds of 9/1.
I am a huge fan of what Joaquin did in Joker, yet my vote would have to go to Antonio Banderas for his excellent and understated performance in Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film Pain And Glory, which is one of my favourite films of the year.

That said, Taron Egerton might have a good shout for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman, and the Academy Awards has form in award Oscars to people for playing musicians.
They gave Rami Malik an Oscar for his impersonation of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, and I would argue that Taron’s performance in Rocketman is much more deserving of an Oscar.
You can get odds of 9/1 for Taron to win 2020’s Best Actor Oscar, which I think isn’t a bad shout.
Honestly, I can’t really see beyond Joaquin Phoenix at the moment, because his performance has garnered rave reviews across the board, and as I said before, it’s his time to shine in the Oscars spotlight.
I’m quite surprised to see DiCaprio with such high odds to be honest. I thought his performance was excellent in Tarantino’s latest flick, but it’s not quite Oscar-worthy in my book.
