Here’s The Real Reason Why Joker Doesn’t Have A Post Credits Scene

Joker has hit cinemas and its easily going to be one of the most controversial films of the year. It was making the headlines even before the film was released.

Why is that you ask? It’s due to the violence in the movie. Not just the violence, but the type of violence. There are scenes of rioting and mass civil unrest in the movie, and people are worried that it might hit a bit too close to home.

We live in difficult times as the moment, and people are worried that certain audience members will watch the movie and be incited into going out and starting to riot against the powers that be.

No post-credits scene? No problem

However, another reason why people are a bit upset with the film is down to the fact that it doesn’t have a post-credits scene, which is rather unusual for a comic book movie.

All of the recent DC Comics movies have had post-credits scenes. It’s a trend which was started by the Marvel movies. Well, if you’re going to be difficult about it, then you might say that it was Flash Gordon which started the trend.

However, Marvel movies made it a thing again, and the DC Comics movies did the same thing.

Joker isn’t part of the DCEU

Although, Joker doesn’t have one, and the reason is very simple. Joker doesn’t have a post-credits scene because it’s not part of the wider DCEU – or whatever they’re calling in these days.

Joker is not linked to the likes of Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman and Man of Steel. Todd Philipps’ film takes place aside to all of that. It’s in a completely different universe.

Philipps also opened up about what he chose not to include a post-credits scene in Joker in a recent interview.

Post-credit scenes are too light for Todd

“The idea of a post-credits scene in this movie would seem wrong, and a little too light for me,” Phillips said in an interview with GamesRadar.

“That wouldn’t have been something we did. But Joaquin said it would be funny to put bloopers alongside the names like they did in the old days.”

Personally, I would have enjoyed a gag reel at the end of the movie, yet it wouldn’t have matched the film’s tone.

That said, I’d love to see the bloopers reel further down the line since I bet there are some genuinely funny moments in there.

Mark Hamill loved Joachim’s Joker

Meanwhile, Mark Hamill has opened up about what he thought of Joachim Phoenix’s Joker in Todd Philipps’ movie.

Hamill is no stranger to the character himself having played the Joker in the Batman animated series, a few animated movies as well as the recent Rocksteady Batman video games.

Many people feel that Hamill is The Joker, yet the actor took the time to praise Phoenix’s version of the character. Interestingly enough, this wasn’t something he did after watching Leto in Suicide Squad.

The #JokerMovie opens today. The awesome Joaquin Phoenix, Todd Phillips & Scott Silver brilliantly reimagine the character as never seen before! 2 thumbs up from that old-school, comic book version… me,” wrote Hamill on Twitter.

He’s not the only person who loved Joaquin’s turn as the Joker, a.k.a. Arthur Fleck. I was also blown away by his performance and I explained why in my review of Joker.
