Check Out Joker’s New Imax Poster Which Showcases Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck

There’s been a huge amount of buzz surrounding Todd Phillips’ Joker movie. The film already received the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival, and many experts are claiming that it’ll be in the running for the Best Film Oscar in 2020, which would make it the first-ever comic book movie to be nominated at the Academy Awards.

However, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. The film still isn’t out yet, so we can’t start claiming that it’ll be winning any more awards. That said, the Golden Lion is a pretty big one to win.

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, who’s called Arthur Fleck yet ends up going by the name Joker. It promises to be a bit more like a Martin Scorsese gangster movie rather than a traditional comic book film and that’s totally fine by me.

It’s about time that we saw some more interesting comic book films that play around with different genres. The last film based on a comic book property to do that was Logan, and that was brilliant – one of my favourite comic book films of all time.

Warner Bros. Pictures has now released the IMAX poster for Joker, and it seems to be in keeping with the film’s gangster movie roots. The poster shows Phoenix’s Joker in full costume in front of a burning car.

The image, to me at least, brings to mind Scorsese’s classic film, Casino. Whether that’s deliberate or not remains to be seen. What is for sure is that Joker’s director, Todd Phillips, was heavily inspired by Scorsese’s film, The King of Comedy, which also stars Robert De Niro.

Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck will be a failed comedian who ends up turning to a life of crime after his attempt at breaking the comedy scene fails, which sounds a lot like the plot to The King of Comedy.

That said, it’s never a bad thing to be inspired by something, and Phillips has made his inspirations behind the script very clear indeed, even bringing Scorsese on as an executive producer.

Joker also stars Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story and Castle Rock), Marc Maron (Maron and GLOW), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow and Molly’s Game), Glenn Fleshler (Billions and Barry), Shea Whigham (First Man and Kong: Skull Island), Brett Cullen (42 and Netflix’s Narcos), Douglas Hodge (Red Sparrow and Penny Dreadful) and Josh Pais (upcoming Motherless Brooklyn and Going in Style).

Phillips directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with writer Scott Silver (The Fighter), based on characters from DC. The film is produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. It is executive produced by Walter Hamada, Michael E. Uslan, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta, and Bruce Berman.

Joker will be in UK cinemas on October 4th, 2019. Are you looking forward to seeing the film? Let us know in the comments below or on our Facebook or Instagram pages!
