Joker Is The Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie Of All Time

Ladies and gentlemen. Todd Phillips’ Joker is now officially the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, surpassing Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Deadpool 2 in the process, which is just madness.

I mean, think back a few months ago even, many people weren’t sure this film should be released. “It’s too dangerous,” they said. “It won’t make enough money,” they claimed. “You can’t do the Joker after Heath Ledger,” they wrote.

Well, turns out you can do all those things if you get Joaquin Phoenix to play the Joker and Todd Phillips to write and direct the movie.

Joker has now become the highest-grossing R-rated movie at the box office according to Box Office Mojo’s reports.

The site claims that Joker has now made $788.1 million worldwide, surpassing Deadpool’s $782 million and Deadpool 2’s $785 million worldwide, and that’s a pretty big deal since Warner Bros. Pictures wasn’t even sure if it wanted the film to see the light of day.

Joker was made on an estimated budget of between $55–70 million, which is pretty small for a superhero movie.

The first Deadpool movie was made for about $58 million, which means that they’re both operating in the same sort of region as far as money’s concerned.

Deadpool 2 cost a little bit more than the first movie. Fox made that film for $110 million which is why the first film is still considered the highest-grossing R-rated movie despite the fact that its sequel made more money as the box office.

Deadpool 2 was also released twice. It came back out in cinemas and was rebranded as Once Upon A Deadpool and was a non-R-rated cut of the movie so that it could reach a younger audience.

Joker’s box office is really something to be marvelled at because the film had so many hurdles to go through, and it now looks like Warner Bros. Pictures wants to fast-track a sequel, which isn’t that surprising.

Joaquin Phoenix has even expressed interest in playing the role again in another film, and I’m sure that Phillips would like to write and direct the movie.
