It seems as though Jenna Ortega might be about to play the White Tiger in the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney Plus series, Daredevil: Born Again. This news comes to us via Giant Freakin Robot and it seems as though this casting could actually end up happening.

White Tiger is actually a really interesting character, and in the comics, she shares a lot of similarities with Moon Knight. However, I don’t know whether she tends to show up in Moon Knight comics. I also don’t know whether they’ve ever been romantically involved in the comics. I don’t think they ever have been a couple, but, I might be wrong though. As for Jenna Ortega, her career is really on the rise. She’s currently playing Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s Wednesday series, which I have to say, is brilliant. She’s perfect in the role and I can’t wait to see her play the role again in Wednesday Season 2.

As for White Tiger, should Ortega be cast in the role, this would be the first time we ever get to see the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the comics, her real name is Ava Ayala. The character has worked very closely with the Avengers and has been part of Luke Cage’s Heroes For Hire.

Her background is also pretty interesting. She’s part of a family who have been bearers of the Jade Amulets of Power for generations. This is why she’s often tied to Moon Knight, and I wouldn’t be surprised if White Tiger ends up sharing the screen with Oscar Isaacs’ MCU character on the big or small screen.

Here’s White Tiger’s bio, courtesy of Marvel.com:

The White Tiger God contained in the Jade amulets grants the wearer superhuman powers and mastery over martial arts. But it is a controlling god. And Ava as its avatar makes a deal with the god. The deal allows him to control her for one night per week without interference from her. But the possession gets out of hand and Ava ultimately overcomes and controls the god. All with sheer will and a persuasive argument.

So, the character is very similar to Moon Knight. Interestingly enough, all personalities of Moon Knight were avatars of Khonshu himself. This is all very similar to White Tiger’s backstory and I think this looks like another path for Marvel Studios to really lean on the mystic side of the MCU. It sounds as though they might want to bring all of that into Daredevil: Born Again, which I think would really work.

We still don’t have a specific release date for Daredevil: Born Again. However, it was revealed by Marvel President, Kevin Feige, at this year’s San Diego Comic Con that the series will be released in 2024. We also know that Vincent D’Onofrio will be returning as Kingpin in the series, which will be lead by Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. He was recently seen playing the role in Marvel’s She-Hulk.
