Jared Leto Isn’t Happy About Warner Bros. Looking For More Jokers

Jared Leto is reportedly pretty upset about Warner Bros. wanting to have multiple actors play different iterations of the Joker.

If the news that Warner Bros. is planning a standalone Joker origins movie came as shock to you, imagine how Jared Leto must have felt. Leto portrayed the Joker in Suicide Squad and his iteration of the iconic villain left a lot of movie goers feeling a bit nonplused. There was so much talk before the movie came out about how much preparation he did for the role and how he was going full-method for the role, however the final product was disjointed and slightly underwhelming.

A lot of that was probably down to the fact that his part had been significantly cut in post-production, yet we will get to see Leto’s Joker again in the sequel to Suicide Squad. That said, with the news that Warner Bros. is planning a standalone Joker origins movie which won’t star Jared Leto, you have to wonder how many more times we’ll see him sport the green hair and white makeup.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto was not best pleased with this news of a Joker origins movie. Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for a younger actor to play the role and this must put Leto’s future in some jeopardy, even though this movie will take place outside of the DCEU.

“Insiders say Jared Leto, the actor who portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime in last summer’s Suicide Squad and is slated to reprise the character not just for a sequel but for another spinoff movie (with DC villainess Harley Quinn), was caught off-guard by the plans,” wrote THR. Leto is said to have made his displeasure with the notion of multiple Jokers known to his CAA agents, and rival agency WME has been using the concern to court him.”

We still don’t know what this standalone Joker picture will mean for Leto’s future as the “Clown Prince of Crime”, but as far as the actor is concerned, he won’t want his depiction of the role to have to compete with another iteration the same character in an adjacent series of films. It all sounds very complicated and no one must be as confused and frustrated as Leto, who despite the critics has very much taken this role to heart.
