James Gunn is Unsure on Whether Nathan Fillion Will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn revealed during a Facebook Live Q&A that he still hadn’t made his mind up on whether Nathan Fillion will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

James Gunn just loves addressing his fans directly via his Facebook page, be it in a very long post or a live Q&A. This is why fans adore him so much. He’s always so direct and pretty accessible considering he’s one of the most famous directors working in Hollywood today. He recently took to Facebook once again and was answering a preselected set of fans’ questions. As well as revealing that he had been up all night working on the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (the guy seriously never gets a break), the director also admitted that he still was unsure as to whether Nathan Fillion will be in the third Guardians film or not. Check out the Facebook Live Q&A in full below.

“Will he [Nathan Fillion] be in [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3]? I don’t know yet,” Gunn pondered. “I haven’t made up my mind.” It was pretty widely covered that Fillion was originally going to cameo as Simon Williams, a.k.a Wonder Man, via a series of made-up film posters during one of Vol. 2‘s Earth scenes. Unfortunately for us Fillion fans, and for the actor himself, that scene was cut from the final movie. However, all is not lost, since we still have hope that Fillion’s version of Wonder Man may get to show up in the third Guardians picture.

During an interview with Comicbook.com, Fillion seemed optimistic about the future of Wonder Man in the MCU. “If you know the Marvel Universe, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man, becomes an Avenger,” explained Fillion. “So, he’s part of that universe. It was a neat little Easter egg, it was a neat little piece of the universe. It didn’t get into the movie. That’s fine. That happens all the time. I still had the same wonderful experience. But moving forward, I don’t know, let me see what we can do with this opportunity. That’s just a cleverly disguised opportunity. Am I right?”

With Gunn currently in the process of writing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s good to see that he’s being reminded of Fillion’s Wonder Man. There’s still hope that we will get to see Fillion appear properly in the MCU, and not just as the voice of a prison thug, then we should.
