It: Chapter Two Director Andy Muschietti Wants To Make An It: Chapter Three

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I wasn’t a huge fan of It: Chapter 2. I actually didn’t like it at all, and I’m really not sure if Andy Muschietti really needs to make an It: Chapter 3.

However, it seems as though he’s interested in making a third It movie, which I suppose would be based on more aspects of the Stephen King book.

He revealed this during an interview with iO9, who asked him whether he’d be up for doing more It, and maybe making a third movie.

Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

There is a whole mythology to the book. Mythology is something that always has opportunities to explore. It has been on Earth for millions of years. He’s been in contact with humans for hundreds of years, every 27 years. So you can imagine the amount of material.

However, the director then revealed that there are no plans to make a third It movie just yet with Warner Bros. who seem to be slowing the Stephen King movie train down a bit.

It’s always exciting to think of eventually exploring this mythology. It’s very exciting. But, for now, there’s nothing on the table.

People did seem to get very excited about these Stephen King adaptations. The first It movie, otherwise known as It: Chapter 1 did incredibly well at the box office and Warner Bros. was quick to greenlight a sequel with Muschietti back in the director’s seat.

However, trying to make a film which revolves around the same characters as adults was never going to be easy, the main reason being because they are the most boring parts of the book.

King’s It is really at its very best with the characters as children and it kind of loses its way when they come back to Derry as adults.

That said, we might also be experiencing Stephen King fatigue, especially after Doctor Sleep was released, which really didn’t resonate with fans.
