Indiana Jones 5 Might Be Directed By James Mangold After Steven Spielberg’s Exit

Indiana Jones 5 won’t be directed by Steven Spielberg anymore and there are rumours that James Mangold will step in to direct the movie.

This report has come from Variety, so I’m inclined to believe there is some truth to it.

According to their sources Disney hasn’t quite closed the deal with James Mangold as of yet.

However, they very keen on getting the Logan and Ford v Ferrari director to helm their next Indiana Jones movie.

It was revealed a few days back by Harrison Ford himself that production on Indiana Jones 5 will begin in the summer.

Hopefully, Disney and Lucasfilm will have everything sorted out before then.

However, Spielberg hasn’t stepped down from the movie entirely.

Variety’s sources claim that the director will stay on as the film’s producer, which is good enough I suppose.

According to a source close to the filmmaker, the decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s.

They claimed that it was his desire to pass along the whip to a new generation of filmmakers to bring their perspective to the story.

Sounds like an interesting idea if you ask me, and I can’t think of anyone more suited to the job than Mangold.

What do you make do this news? Would you like to see James Mangold direct Indiana Jones 5 instead of Steven Spielberg?
