Here’s Our Rankings Of 2017’s Comic Book Movies

It’s that time of year when we start seeing best and worst of the year lists. We decided to rank all of the comic book movies that came out in 2017.

Comic book movies have now become a staple of our cinema-going diet. We can’t go to the cinema nowadays without seeing a big poster some sort of Hollywood comic book movie blockbuster. That said, it doesn’t mean they can’t be good. This year has seen the release of an impressive amount of good comic book movies. I can’t remember the last time there have been so many properly good comic book films released in just one year. 2016 was a particular lowlight for me with both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad not being the movies I was hoping for.

That said, a comic book movie doesn’t have to be just about superheroes. There were a number of films in 2017 that were based on comics and didn’t feature a single superhero or even, in one movie’s case (Wilson), a single fight scene. Graphic novels are now considered as literature which in turn has resulted in them being in contention for big screen adaptions, and that’s wonderful. There are so many moving graphic novels whose stories deserve to be told in cinemas and movie studios are finally picking up on that fact.

This year, however, was very heavy on the superhero movie, as every year will be from now on for the foreseeable future. Out of this list of 10 comic book movies, 7 of them are superhero films. Yet, we have seen superhero films this year that really challenged the status quo. Logan and Wonder Woman, for instance, both showed audiences a different side of the genre. Logan displayed raw, unfiltered emotion with a generous helping of R-rated violence, whereas Wonder Woman showed that a superhero movie could be full of hope and heart, as well as proving that a female-led superhero movie can crush it at the box office.

Anyway, that’s enough blabbing. It’s time to see how we decided to rank 2017’s comic book movies from worst to best.
