Here’s The Full Cast Of Jon Favreau’s Live-Action Adaptation Of The Lion King

Disney has released the official full cast of Jon Favreau’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Lion King, which included Beyoncé!

Jon Favreau’s live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book did so well and was so well received that Disney made sure to get him to sign onto their live-action adaptation of The Lion King. This live-action remake of The Lion King is just another in a slew of these sorts of movies. This year we saw their adaptation of Beauty and the Beast which is still 2017’s highest-grossing movie. Before that, we had The Jungle Book and Cinderella. It seems to be a lucrative venture for Disney and The Lion King is the next one in the pipeline. Today Disney announced the film’s star-studded cast. Check it out via the image below.

Along with the film’s cast, Disney also released The Lion King’s synopsis, which you can read here:

From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way.

I love the fact that they managed to get James Earl Jones back as the voice of Mufasa, but there’s one name on that list that really stands out: Beyoncé as Nala, who is the lioness that Simba takes a liking to. Incidentally, Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Donald Glover will be playing Simba, which is a fabulous bit of casting. He’s certainly proved that he has the singing voice to play the role. Make sure you check out his music which he releases under the pseudome of Childish Gambino.

I’m also looking forward to hearing the amusing conversation between Seth Rogen’s Pumba and Billy Eichner’s Timon, and John Oliver as Zazu is perfect. If you’re going to get anyone other than Rowan Atkinson to be the voice of Zazu, it has to be John Oliver.

The Lion King is set to hit cinemas on June 19th, 2019 and is said to feature “pioneering filmmaking techniques” which shouldn’t be a problem for Favreau.
