EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play

We’re here at EGX in Birmingham playing some pretty incredible video games. Here’s our five favourite games from EGX 2017 Day 2.

EGX 2017 Day 2: we saw an astounding amount of games on the second day at EGX and these five in particular seriously impressed us. Some of them you might feel a burning desire to immediately dismiss, but hear us out. If you missed our highlights from EGX Day 1, check them out here.

Detroit: Become Human

EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play

Detroit: Become Human is a game of the year contender

Quantic Dream’s latest endeavour is nothing short of jaw dropping. My heart raced, I held my breath, and I don’t think I have ever sweat so much playing a video game (okay, you got me, maybe it’s pipped by Wii Tennis on the sofa). Detroit: Become Human is an intense experience where relations between androids and humans are at an all-time low, and you’re placed slap bang in the middle of it. Detroit is a true Game of the Year contender, so don’t forget to check it out in the PlayStation section.

Lake Ridden

EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play 3

Lake Ridden is a real gem

Midnight Hub have conjured up a magical story-driven adventure with Lake Ridden, wherein you play as a girl named Marie who is searching for her vanished sister. Originally envisioned as a horror game, Lake Ridden is equal parts creepy and intriguing, and if you’re a fan of puzzlers then you will absolutely dig this game. You can find Lake Ridden in the Rezzed section.

Skyrim VR

EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play 5

Skyrim VR is tons of fun

Roll your eyes if you want, but Skyrim VR is a technical masterpiece. While some gamers are understandably frustrated at the amount of re-releases when Bethesda could be working on a new Elder Scrolls game, let me tell you, Skyrim VR feels like a new Elder Scrolls game. Nothing compares to literally being inside Tamriel and slaying monsters with your sword by swinging your arm, and if you’ve tried virtual reality before, you’ll know how incredible an achievement rendering an open world in VR is. Check out Skyrim VR at the VR booth in the PlayStation section, but make sure you book a slot first here.

Lost Words

EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play 4

Lost Words is achingly beautiful

Lost Words is a stellar indie title developed by Sketchbook Games and written by Rhianna Pratchett that takes place between the pages of a girl’s diary and the fantasy world of Estoria. It tells the story of Izzy, an aspiring writer who uses stories to help her cope with the issues that trouble her in real life. Izzy traverses across words and moves them to solve puzzles, and it’s an absolute joy to play. Even though the game is aimed at teens, this puzzler will resonate will all ages five and upwards. Don’t miss this treat of a game, and be sure to check it out in the Rezzed section.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

EGX 2017 Day 2 Round-Up: The Top 5 Video Games You Have to Play 1

Assassin’s Creed: Origins sees the franchise back to its best

We haven’t had a new Assassin’s Creed game since 2015, and the extra development time has paid dividends for the latest entry in the series. While Origins is still an Assassin’s Creed game and you shouldn’t expect anything radically different, the combat has been revamped entirely and sees the protagonist fight primarily with sword and shield and bow and arrow. As if that wasn’t enough, the game is entirely open world, and we’re reminded a little bit of The Witcher as we rode our mount through the desert. The demo felt exciting and fresh, and with incredible visuals to boot, we’re confident that Origins will be a step in the right direction for the series.

That’s it from us for now, stay tuned for our final day of highlights tomorrow!
