Drew Goddard Will Write and Direct the X-Force Movie with Deadpool as its Lead

20th Century Fox has hired Drew Goddard to write and direct an X-Force movie which will feature Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool as its lead.

After the huge success of Deadpool many people were asking Ryan Reynolds what he would like to do next with the character. Oddly enough, his first response wasn’t Deadpool 2. He claimed that he would love to be part of an X-Force movie. Granted, the Merc with a Mouth revealed in Deadpool’s post-credits scene that Cable would be in the sequel, yet Reynolds has always voiced his interest in doing an X-Force movie, and now it looks like 20th Century Fox are going to make his dream a reality and have given Drew Goddard the task of writing and directing the flick.

According to Deadline, Fox has hired Drew Goddard to write and direct the X-Force movie which will centre on Deadpool and Cable leading a Black Ops force full of disreputable mutants, much like themselves. The film will be produced by Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner. Reynolds’ Deadpool will be the film’s lead, along with Josh Brolin’s Cable. We will get to see the two together for the first time in Deadpool 2, which is being directly by John Wick and Atomic Blond’s director, David Leitch.

Drew Goddard has been on many people’s radar in Hollywood and has been destined to direct a superhero movie for sometime. He helped create the Netflix TV show, Daredevil (arguably the best of Marvel’s Netflix shows). He also wrote the screenplay for Ridley’s Scott’s Oscar nominated film, The Martian. Goddard had also written the script for the The Sinister Six and was all set to direct the film before Sony and Marvel eventually made the deal that would result in the making of Spider-Man: Homecoming and the scrapping of all of Sony’s previous Spider-Man spinoff plans.

There’s been no release date scheduled for the X-Force movie, however, 2018 is setting up to be a big year for Fox’s superhero films with the releases of X-Men: New Mutants (April 13th, 2018), Deadpool 2 (June 1st, 2018) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2nd, 2018). Drew Goddard is currently in pre-production on another movie for 20th Century Fox, Bad Times at the El Royale which will star Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges, and is set for release on October 5th, 2018.
