Disney And Sony Pictures Blame The Media For Delayed Spider-Man Deal

Disney and Sony Pictures finally managed to work things out and sort out their Spider-Man deal, yet executives at Disney and Sony have come about and blamed the media for the delay in getting it finalised.

There was a moment where we were all worried that the deal would happen and that Spider-Man would no longer be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would have been terrible.

However, Disney and Sony’s executives believe that the media are to blame and that they made it more of a story than it was, which is probably true to some extent.

Disney’s chief creative officer and co-chairman of Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn and chairman of Sony’s Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the recent Spider-Man negotiations.

Rothman had quite a bit to say about the new Spider-Man deal, and described it as:

“…A classic win-win-win. A win for Sony, a win for Disney, a win for the fans. The only thing I would say is that news cycles and the rhythm of negotiations do not necessarily overlap. And this is, in the words of Shakespeare, a consummation devoutly to be wished. We would have gotten there, and the news got ahead of some things.”

Disney’s Horn agreed with his Sony Pictures colleague’s words, and it does make sense. The deal was probably still going through its final stages and media outlets go wind that it hadn’t been signed yet, and things got out of hand.

That said, Disney and Sony Pictures both made official statements claiming that a deal had not been reached, so they do hold a bit of the blame, at least I think so.
