The Nightmare Before Christmas is in my top ten movies of all time. I love the film to bits, and I watch it twice every year. Once at Halloween, and once at Christmas.
I honestly believe it one of the most perfect movies ever made. One of the things I never felt was that it needed a sequel or a remake.
However, it turns out that Disney could be planning to do a follow-up to the 1993 movie.
According to MovieHole, they’ve been told by a ‘reliable’ source that Disney is looking at making a sequel to Henry Selick’s movie.
They write: “There’s talk at Disney to ‘do something with Nightmare Before Christmas – probably a sequel but live-action possible’ we’ve been informed (the tip comes from someone who has given Moviehole credible intent in the past; in particular, they were spot-on with the Backdraft 2 scoop they offered us).”

I’m going to take this news with a slight pinch of salt, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney was to make this happen, especially with the imminent release of their streaming platform, DisneyPlus.
I highly doubt that Disney would make a live-action version of the film. I think this would be a lot like the original film, both in look and tone. It would basically be a straight sequel.
Yet, then there’s the question, what would Jack Skellington be up to next? Perhaps it could have something to do with his family? That wouldn’t be a bad idea and would allow them to explore other themes, as well as keeping it’s Christmas spirit.

However, back in 2018, TokyoPop released a comic-book sequel to the film called Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey, which followed Jack Skellington’s dog, Zero, as he gets lost in Christmas Town.
I highly doubt that they would turn this comic into a feature-length movie. It feels more like a short, which would also be a fun watch.
