Disney’s CEO Bob Iger Will Have A Meeting With Martin Scorsese After Marvel Movie Comments

There’s been a lot of conversation about whether Marvel’ Studios’ films are ‘cinema’ or not, and most of that is down to Martin Scorsese’s comments.

Scorsese made the headlines when he claimed that Marvel’s movies weren’t cinema. He went on to liken them to theme park rides, and I kind of understand where he was coming from.

However, fans of the MCU weren’t very happy about it, and Scorsese’s comments opened the floodgates where filmmakers came out on both sides.

This led to the likes of The Godfather director, Francis Ford Coppola calling the MCU movies “despicable”, which I think is a bit much.

But Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, revealed that he wants to sit down with Martin Scorsese and talk it out.

The Disney CEO had previously said that Scrosese’s comments were “nasty” and “not fair to the people who are making the movies.”

He also said, “If Marty Scorsese wants to be in the business of taking artistic risk, all power to him. It doesn’t mean that what we’re doing isn’t art.”

He then revealed during an interview with Time magazine, in which Iger was named businessperson of the year, the Disney CEO revealed that his people are reaching out to Marty’s people, and arranging a meeting.

Hopefully, all can be forgiven and Iger and Scorsese can end up patching over the cracks and bring an end to this whole ‘are Marvel movies cinema’ debate.

I’m going to be honest, I’ve become rather tired of this whole debate and I’m tired of hearing people complain on both sides of the argument.

Personally, I think both sides have good arguments, and I would personally say that Marvel movies are cinema, but just a different form of cinema – one which Scorsese isn’t quite used to.
