Deadpool’s Writers Want To ‘Play In The MCU Sandbox’

Deadpool’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, might have been a bit worried when they heard that Disney’s acquisition of Fox went had gone through.

Deadpool more kind of linked to Fox’s X-Men movies, so what does that mean for Ryan Reynolds’ version of the Marvel comics character?

The fate of Deadpool in a world where Disney now owns basically everything is rather uncertain.

However, Reese and Wernick don’t seem to be too worried about Deadpool’s future. They seem to think a third movie will still happen.

They recently wrote the script for Zombieland: Double Tap – which I’m really excited about – and they recently opened up about Deadpool 3.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Wernick revealed: “We’re always in touch with Ryan. We’ve got several projects with him in addition to the Deadpool universe. I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out.

“Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.”

He continued: “Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.

“Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”

However long it takes, I just hope that Disney and Marvel do let Reese, Wernick and Ryan Reynolds to do their own thing with Deadpool.

They really get the character and have made some pretty solid movies together. They could exist outside of the MCU, an R-rated part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That would be really cool, if you ask me.
