Will C3PO Sacrifice Himself In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s final trailer has landed, and boy, it’s good. It has so many incredible moments in it, but one of the bits that stuck out to me was the moment with C3PO.

“What are you doing there 3PO?” asks Po Dameron in the trailer. Everybody in what looks to be a droid repair area is looking at the golden droid with inquisitive looks.

Before Po asked this question, a little creature (his name is Babu Frik by the way) is doing something to the back of C3PO’s head.

C3PO then looks at the new crop of Star Wars heroes and replies: “Taking one last look, Sir, at my friends.”

Will C3PO forget his friends in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

Just let the tears roll down our cheeks. This moment is so emotional, not only because it’s such a sweet thing to say, but also because it seems to be the only moment where C3PO doesn’t seem terrified by something.

It feels like he’s done a lot of growing throughout the course of these Star Wars movies, which sounds like a strange thing to say about a droid, but it’s true.

Anthony Daniels’ character has become so much more than just a droid programmed for etiquette and protocol. He’s evolved beyond that and is an actual person now, with feelings and memories.

However, memories could be at the heart of what’s going on here. It seems like Babu Frik is trying to retrieve C3PO’s memories that were wiped after Revenge of the Sith.

But, what about R2D2? He does remember everything!

Before this, C3PO doesn’t know that his mind was wiped, however, R2D2’s mind was never wiped. He’s the greatest secret keeper in the whole galaxy.

He might have revealed to C3PO that his mind was wiped, and the droid may decide to try and retrieve his memories in order to help his friends find a vital bit of information, possibly on Emperor Palpatine.

Wiping C3PO’s memories could then lead to the droid forgetting everything that happened after his mind was wiped, which would be a real shame because it would mean he wouldn’t remember what happened in the original trilogy and this new one.

However, if this is the case, why couldn’t R2D2 just spill the beans. Well, it might have something to do with the information they’re after.

Perhaps it’s something that R2D2 didn’t witness, therefore he won’t be able to help.

Unfortunately, this is just pure speculation, and we won’t know the truth until the movie hits cinemas this Christmas.

Is that why C3PO had red eyes in the first The Rise Of Skywalker trailer

But, it could explain why C3PO was seen with red eyes in the first trailer. Perhaps he has his mind wiped and goes into some sort of evil droid mode, and then he could end up becoming a danger to his friends.

Or, he goes into this ‘evil’ droid mode, which could be Palpatine’s doing, and then manages to get his head back in order, but feels the need to be shut down in order to protect the people he loves.

That would be a really sad moment if it turns out to be true.

Whatever the case, this scene is guaranteed to get the waterworks going, and it will be difficult to watch.
