Black Panther’s New Teaser Trailer Welcomes Us to Wakanda

Marvel’s Black Panther has a brand new teaser trailer and it is pretty darn good! Check it out in all its glory below.

Fans have been begging to get to see Black Panther brought to the big screen, and they were partially granted their wish in Captain America: Civil War when Chadwick Boseman first stepped into the role in what was a pretty substantial cameo. However, we were going to have to wait until 2018 to see more of him in Black Panther’s first ever standalone movie. Check out the trailer below.

Boseman plays Black Panther, who’s also known as T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, a fictional and mysterious country in Africa. The trailer opens with a scene between Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis, who are quite used to a acting opposite one another (go and watch the very first Hobbit film, in which they share the very best scene in the whole trilogy). Freeman’s CIA operative Everett K. Ross is questioning Serkis’ Ulysses Klaue in a holding cell, supposedly in South Korea, and the villainous South African asks him how much he really knows of Wakanda.

“In that scene, they play the audience surrogate,” Ryan Coogler (Creed) told EW. “One person knows quite a bit about Wakanda, and another person thinks they do — but they don’t. It’s just a teaser, so we don’t want to give away too much. But I thought it would be awesome to start with a character who has seen Wakanda in its true light.”

It’s a brilliant scene to put into a trailer since it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, tease us into wanting to know more. Marvel has been releasing some very good trailers recently: Thor (which I still think is Marvel’s very best trailer yet), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and even Spider-Man: Homecoming has seen some fantastic trailers, even though some of its posters have been, let’s just say a bit underwhelming (or in other words, photoshop disasters!).

In the trailer, we then see that Boseman’s T’Challa is standing behind the one-way glass with the warrior Okoye (Danai Gurira), head of the Dora Milaje protective core, standing beside him. Klaue simply knows and has found too much and they look at each other, and we can tell from his glance alone that T’Challa is thinking, “We need to do something about this guy…”. The secrets (and precious metal – Vibranium) of Wakanda are at stake.

“What makes Panther different from other Marvel superheroes is, he doesn’t seem himself as a superhero. He sees himself as a politician,” Coogler revealed. “He wakes up thinking, ‘How am I going to fulfill my duties as king of this place?’”

Black Panther’s teaser trailer succeeded in making me want to know and see more of this mysterious superhero/king. Ryan Coogler’s film will be in UK cinemas on February 9th, 2018. We still have a while to wait…
