Here Are The Best 10 Films Of 2019

It’s that time of the year, again. Well, I’m going to be brutally honest, it’s taken me a while to get to this particular list because it’s really not easy getting to see every film made in the year, and I didn’t even come close to watching all the movies 2019 had to offer.

That said, I watched a fair few in 2019, and I believe I watched enough movies to make a pretty decent best films of the year list.

2019’s been yet another great year for movies. We’ve seen some really incredible films, and some not-so-incredible ones.

It’s been a year of blockbusters, as usual, but there have been some really brilliant independent and smaller movies that have wowed critics and audiences alike.

I always say this when coming up with best of the year lists, but my lists are entirely based on personal enjoyment.

There have been many films I’ve seen this year which are incredibly well-made, yet a lot of them were style over substance for me, and that’s why there might be some surprising omissions in this list.

I also never got the time to watch big awards contenders such as The Irishman, Marriage Story, Little Women and Parasite (the last two  I’m particularly ashamed of having not seen yet).

However, I will get to them before the Oscars. That’s a promise.

I also decided not to put Jojo Rabbit in this list, despite it being one of the best films I watched in 2019 because it didn’t come out in the UK until this January, so I decided not to include it.

The same can be said about Sam Mendes’ 1917. In order to get into this list, films had to have been released in the UK between January 1st and December 31st.

So, I’ve set out the rules, now it’s time to get onto the films.

Here is Small Screen’s best films of 2019 list.

So, there you have it, Small Screen’s list of the best films to have come out in 2019. I know there are plenty of other films you might have wanted to see on this list, and that’s the beauty of cinema, people love different types of movies and that means we can have discussions about film and it can get very passionate and heated, but that’s fine, as long as it all remains civil.

There are some honourable mentions I’d like to add, and some of them might surprise you.

The following films didn’t quite make the cut, but I did love them: Joker, Aladdin (yep, I actually really enjoyed this film), Blinded By The Light, Mrs Lowry & Son, Le Mans 66 (or Ford v Ferrari in the US) and Ad Astra.

Which were your 10 favourite films of 2019? Let us know in the comments below, but please, keep it civil and keep it clean.

I hope you all had a wonderful 2019 and an even better 2020. Happy New Year to you all, and thank you to all the people who kept on checking back with us here and Small Screen.
