Batwoman: The CW Is Developing A New Series Based On The DC Comics Superhero

BATWOMAN is now officially in development at The CW and will be the very first live-action superhero series with an openly gay lead character.

There’s been chatter about Batwoman coming to the Arrowverse for quite a while now.

Stephen Amell announced that the DC Comics character would be making her live-action debut on a future crossover episode, which got fans very excited.

However, it’s now gone that step further as Variety has reported that The CW is developing Batwoman’s very own TV show.

If the show ends up getting picked up that will make it the first ever live-action superhero TV series to have an openly gay character as its lead.

If all goes to plan, we should see Batwoman on our tellies in 2019.

Batwoman would be a great addition to the Arrowverse and would serve as an excellent role model for a significant proportion of people who feel that they are misrepresented in these TV shows.

That said, The CW does its utmost to be as inclusive as possible and a Batwoman TV show would be just another example of that fact.

Here’s the official synopsis of the show:

“In the series, Kate Kane, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.

But don’t call her a hero yet.

In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

The show is being written by Caroline Dries who has worked TV shows such as The Vampire DiariesMelrose Place and Smallville.

Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns are attached as executive producers on the series.
