Annihilation’s New Trailer Is Here And It Looks Incredible

Annihilation’s new trailer has arrived and Alex Garland’s film looks absolutely incredible. It’s just a shame we won’t get to see it on the big screen here in the UK.

Annihilation is easily one of my most anticipated films of 2018, and it should be yours too. Firstly, Alex Garland is one of the most interesting and promising directors working in Hollywood today. Just watch Ex Machina and Dredd to understand what I mean. Secondly, good sci-fi horror is hard to find and it looks like Garland’s taken Jeff VanderMeer’s original book and turned it into a real cinematic masterpiece. I read the book and I’m going to be honest, I didn’t understand much of it, but it judging by the trailer it looks like it’s transitioned well from the page to the screen.

Thirdly, it stars both Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac (who was also in Garland’s Ex Machina). I’m really looking forward to seeing Portman become a kickass action hero and this seems like the perfect vehicle for her. Unfortunately, Paramount Pictures has made a deal with Netflix that means that the film won’t get a cinema release in all territories apart from the US, Canada and China. That means that we’ll have to watch it on Netflix here in the UK. I have nothing against Netflix, but this seems like the kind of film that warrants being viewed on the biggest screen possible.

Garland recently aired his thoughts about this whole debacle and unsurprisingly he’s pretty upset about it. He made the film for the big screen and it’s being denied that in many areas including his home country. That said, the film looks incredible and hopefully it’ll find an audience on Netflix and become the hit of 2018.

Annihilation will be coming to cinemas in the US on the 23rd of February and will available to stream on Netflix in March.
