Adam Driver Too Intense to Hang Out With Mark Hamill

Seriously, who would turn down an offer to hang out with Mark Hamill on the set of Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Turns out, moody old Kylo Ren, a.k.a Adam Driver would. Check out what Mark had to say about the whole thing below.

I would do anything to have a chance to spend some time on the set of Star Wars: The Last Jedi with Mark Hamill. OK, maybe not anything, but I certainly wouldn’t turn down an offer to chill with Luke Skywalker himself. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Mark opened out about Adam Driver rebuffed his offer of spending some quality time together.

“I remember saying to Adam, ‘I don’t know how you work, or your technique. But, at some point, you were my nephew. I probably bounced you on my knee. I probably babysat for you. There’s that side, and now we’re both estranged from the Skywalker family. All I’m suggesting is, if you’d like, maybe we could go to lunch, we could get together and hang out,’” he told Vanity Fair’s David Kamp.

However, Driver – who Hamill jovially described as “very moody and intense” – turned the legendary actor down. Yet, Mark didn’t seem too upset by the refusal, commenting during the interview, “and more power to him”. Kylo Ren is an intense character to play, and some actors do have a tendency of going quite deep into their characters. Driver happens to be one of those actors, which hopefully means we’ll get to see an incredible performance from him.

Driver explained how his seriousness onset is part of his whole process. “There’s big personal things that I find about every character, not just in Star Wars, that you have to make as personal as possible. It’s the big joke about being an actor, that you make everything you’re doing seem like it’s life or death. The things about that character that I find painful, that I really relate to, I kind of prefer to keep to myself,” he said.

Hamill wasn’t the only actor on set to try and get Driver to open up. John Boyega, who plays Finn, took a more direct approach. “I give Adam hugs randomly, just for no reason,” he said. When he asked whether Driver goes through with the hug, Boyega revealed that “he just stands there. He just waits for me to be done.” Boyega should be glad that he didn’t go full Kylo Ren on his arse and slash him with the awesome homemade lightsaber of his.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be in UK cinemas on December 15th, and I cannot wait!
