Venom’s Very First Trailer Shows Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock Wrestling With His Demons

The very first trailer for Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Venom, has arrived and it showcases Eddie Brock’s battle to fight his inner demons. Check it out here.

When the news first broke that Sony Pictures would be making a Venom spinoff movie starring Tom Hardy I was a tad puzzled. How would this film connect with the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that Sony and Marvel are working together on Spider-Man? Will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man turn up? Is there any real need for this movie? The truth is, we will only know the answers to these question when the movie comes out in October. What I can tell you is that there’s a new trailer and it shows off Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. I have to say that he looks pretty good in the role.

Venom is something of an enigma. The best way to describe him would be as an anti-hero. Sometimes he’s good, sometimes he’s bad. He’s not unlike Deadpool in that sense. However, it looks like Tom Hardy’s depiction of the character will rely heavily on the conflict within Brock himself, which just worsens the minute he comes into contact with the alien symbiote. Hardy’s no stranger to playing conflicted, even evil, characters. He famously played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and John Fitzgerald in The Revenant, both of which were less than reputable characters. He’s very good at it and he’s the real reason I’m looking forward to this picture.

Venom will be helmed by Zombieland director, Ruben Fleischer, who’s working off a script from Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel, and will star Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed.

Venom will be arriving in UK cinemas on October 5th. Are you ready for it? Let us know in the comments below.
