A V For Vendetta Series Is In The Works At Channel 4

Channel 4 is working on bringing Alan Moore and David Lloyds’ classic graphic novel, V For Vendetta, to the small screen.

V For Vendetta is easily one of the best graphic novels ever written. It tells the tale of a dystopian future which has been ravaged by climate change and a world now controlled by a totalitarian government. One man, who wears a Guy Fawkes mask, decides to rise up against this 1984-esque regime and bring down the government. Incidentally, the Guy Fawkes mask has now become a symbol of anarchy and has been used by the hacktivist group, Anonymous.

Moore and Llyods’ graphic novel was adapted for the silver screen by the Wachowskis and the film was directed by James McTeigue and starred Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman, John Hurt, Stephen Rea, and even featured a cameo from Stephen Fry. However, Moore requested that his name be taken off the movie, which is why it’s credited as being “based on a graphic novel by David Lloyd”.

We’ve now learned via Bleeding Cool that Channel 4 is developing a TV series based on Moore and Lloyds’ work. We have yet to hear whether Moore will allow his name to be attached to the project. He’s been famously against any film and TV adaptations of his work. This comes after the news that HBO and Damon Lindelof are developing another TV adaptation of one of Moore’s famous graphic novels, Watchmen.

V For Vendetta remains to this day one of DC Comics’ highest selling comic books and has consistently been one of their best sellers year on year.
