Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Trailer Teases the End of the Jedi

The next chapter in the Star Wars saga begins. Check out the Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s trailer below!

The first official teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode 8 has been revealed, and as we predicted (have we mentioned that before?), the title of the eighth episode in the Star Wars saga is “The Last Jedi”. The trailer picks up shortly after where we left off in The Force Awakens, with Rey beginning her Jedi training and Finn still apparently recovering from his battle with Kylo Ren. As for Kylo himself…he has some ambitious plans this time around. Poe and Captain Phasma are also back this time round, and hopefully with increased screen-time for the both of them. Check out the trailer below!

“I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end.” Those were the last words we expected to come out of Luke’s mouth. Originally we thought Episode 8’s title referred to the death of Rey or Luke, leaving only one Jedi remaining, but perhaps this isn’t the case at all? Conflict in the Star Wars saga has always been driven by a battle between good and evil, the light side and the dark side, the Jedi and the Sith. But with the Sith gone and the Jedi remaining, the balance in the force that Luke strives for can never exist.

So does Luke want to disband the Jedi Order to stop organisations like the Empire and the First Order rising up to fight it? Or does Luke want to destroy the Jedi order and then reform it? After all, the values of the Jedi are flawed, and if they can’t end a thousand year old conflict then maybe a new approach is needed. With Rey seeing both the dark and the light as she’s meditating, perhaps we’ll see a new order of guardians that embrace both the dark and the light side?
