Spider-Man: Homecoming’s New Trailer Is Everything It Should Be

Spider-Man: Homecoming’s new trailer has just landed and it’s everything I wanted it to be, and more. Check it out below.

I was excited for Tom Holland’s first solo Spider-Man movie (Spider-Man: Homecoming) the minute he turned up in Captain America: Civil War. He had everything: the wit, the smarts, the look, the charisma, the enthusiasm. He was everything we could have possibly asked for. I loved both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s performances as Stan Lee’s most famous superhero creation, however, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man seems to be the closest to the source material yet, and Marvel being involved in the casting process may have had something to do with this.

Sup guys. Wait a minute, you guys aren’t the real Avengers. I can tell, Hulk gives it away.

Now that we’ve had our first official peek at Spider-Man: Homecoming, I really cannot wait to see what Jon Watts has in store for us. I put Homecoming down in my list of 2017’s blockbusters that we should be looking forward to, and I now firmly stand by that decision. Even though on the surface it looks like just another Spider-Man movie, this may very well end up being Marvel’s most important film to date. This is mainly due to the fact that if it does well at the box office, with the critics, and with the fans, 20th Century Fox may be convinced in doing a similar deal with Marvel to the one Sony Pictures did with them. This could eventually lead to Marvel being involved in the next X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool movies, which would be a plus in my book.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has been sold as a John Hughes-esque superhero movie, in the sense that it’ll be centered around high-school students, just one of them happens to be a superhero. Think of it as Peter Parker’s Day Off. I love this premise, and can’t wait to see how things unfold. We also got our first look at Michael Keaton’s Vulture, which seems to be spot on. I love the irony of Keaton playing yet another bird-like comic book character, especially after his wonderful Oscar nominated turn in Birdman. I’m sure that they’ll be some moments of real tension between Keaton and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

Just don’t do anything I would do, and definitely don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. There’s a little grey area in there and that’s where you operate.

Moreover, this new trailer featured a little glimpse at the development of Peter and Tony Stark’s relationship. Tony serves very much as a role model for Peter. We saw the beginnings of this relationship in Civil War and it looks like Homecoming will expand on that. The scene in the trailer where Peter thinks Tony’s going in for hug, but it turns out that he’s just reaching to open the car door for him was especially amusing. I’d love to see more awkward scenes like this, and judging by this first trailer, Homecoming will be packed full of them.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be in our cinemas in the UK on July 7th, 2017.
