Ridley Scott Has An Idea For Another Blade Runner Sequel

Ridley Scott says that he has an idea in mind for a follow-up movie to Denis Villeneuve’s impeccable Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner 2049 turned out to be yet another divisive movie. 2017 was full of them. Personally, I adored Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. It made our top 20 films of 2017 and was in many of our writers’ top 5 films of the year. However, many people found it to be a bit too long and slow-paced and others had issues with the film’s sexual politics.

That said, Ridley Scott, the man behind the original Blade Runner movie, doesn’t think that the franchise is dead despite the recent film’s slightly disappointing box office. I sincerely believe that in time people will look back on Blade Runner 2049 and see it for the masterpiece it truly is, much like they will with Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The last Jedi.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Scott revealed that he has an idea in mind for another Blade Runner movie. “I hope so. I think there is another story. I’ve got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure,” he said. The fact that Blade Runner 2049 didn’t do as well as Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. had hoped it would do might be a bit of a roadblock to making the movie that Scott has in mind which is a great shame. However, never say never. Five years ago nobody would have thought that there was ever going to be a sequel to Blade Runner, but there is one and it’s pretty darn good!

Scott didn’t elaborate on what his idea for another Blade Runner movie is, but the last movie certainly left some room for a sequel. Who knows, perhaps we’re on the brink of seeing a Blade Runner trilogy. Although, as I mentioned before, it’s highly unlikely due to the box office numbers. It’s a shame that money has to get in the way of great movies, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles I’m afraid.
