Rian Johnson Opens Up About The New Star Wars Trilogy He’s Developing

Rian Johnson has discussed the new Star Wars trilogy he’ll be heading up after he’s finished work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Check out what he had to say below.

We recently learned that Rian Johnson will be heading up a new Star Wars trilogy which will explore new areas of the galaxy and will be removed from the Skywalker saga. That’s great news and Johnson seems like the right man for the job. The mere fact that Lucasfilm has already announced that he’ll be in charge of developing this new trilogy is good news for The Last Jedi. They wouldn’t have announced it if they weren’t 100% sure that The Last Jedi is a real winner. The news just makes me more excited to see his upcoming Star Wars flick.

Rian Johnson was asked to comment on this new trilogy during a press event and he had a few words to say about it all. Here’s what he had to say about it all:

“We’re gonna have to see. I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. I can tell you this: what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world[.] There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it.”

So, it sounds like the director is still working out what this new trilogy’s story will be. This is something that he needs to take a lot of time over and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. The fact that there was going to be another Star Wars trilogy was never in doubt, yet it’s the fact that it’ll be removed from the Skywalker family is what’s really interesting. Star Wars, so far, has always been linked to the Skywalker family line in some way or another. This trilogy will make the franchise’s first foray into the galaxy beyond the one we’ve become used to over the course of seven movies. It’s about time and will hopefully help the Star Wars franchise to keep on expanding and introducing fresh ideas and themes.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be hitting UK cinemas on December 14th. Have you bought your tickets yet?
