Justice League Will Feature More of Queen Hippolyta and Antiope

Wonder Woman’s Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright revealed that we’ll be seeing more of Queen Hippolyta and Antiope in the upcoming Justice League movie.

I’ve made no secret of my love of Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins’ film struck a chord with me that none of the previous films in the DCEU managed to come close to. Maybe it was the more optimistic tone, the more upbeat colour palette, or the fact that Gal Gadot’s Diana just wants to be a real hero and save as many people as she can. Hopefully, Wonder Woman can get the DCEU back into gear and move it away from the overly bleak and depressing twaddle we’ve been subjected to over the past few years. It’s already doing well at the box office, so perhaps that will make the higher-ups at DC and Warner Bros. take notice.

One of Wonder Woman’s real highlights were the scenes on hidden island of Themiscyra, home to the Amazons. Not only was the scenery gorgeous to look at, but it also featured some of the film’s most captivating characters, namely Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and her sister and leader of the Amazons’ army, Antiope (Robin Wright).

In a recent interview with the LA Times, Neilsen and Wright teased that we’ll get to see a bit more of their characters in the DCEU’s upcoming movie, Justice League“And [Wright and I] got to do more in Justice League as well,” mentioned Nielsen. “As sisters as well. Kind of badass as well.” Wright went on the explained that fans will be treated to “more of the story” and “some of the history.”

During the same interview Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, explained that future films in the DCEU will further develop Diana and Hippolyta’s relationship. “Of course; the mother and daughter relationship is always a beautiful but complex relationship,” she revealed. “I think that there’s a lot more to explore.”

Not only am I looking forward to seeing more of Hippolyta and Antiope, who were brilliantly portrayed by Nielsen and Wright respectively, but it’ll be nice to get to revisit Themiscyra, which must be most people’s idea of what heaven looks like. Apparently those scenes were all filmed in southern Italy. I know where I’ll be going on holiday this summer!

Justice League will be in UK cinemas on November 17th.
