Jude Law Was Cast As Dumbledore In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Thanks To The Twinkle In His Eyes

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald’s producer David Heyman revealed that Jude Law got the role of Dumbledore because of the twinkle in his eyes.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is coming and will feature Jude Law as the young version of Albus Dumbledore, which is a brilliant bit of casting. You can totally believe him as the young Dumbledore and he’s a fantastic actor, so I’m pretty darn excited to see what he does with the role. There was a recent image of the movie’s main cast which included our first look at Law as the iconic wizard and I was happy to see that he really looked the part.

The movie’s producer, David Heyman, recently spoke about Jude Law’s casting during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which he revealed that Law had the twinkle in his eyes necessary to play Dumbledore. Here’s exactly what he had to say about it:

“One of the reasons we chose Jude is he has many of the qualities we find in Dumbledore in the Potter films…He’s got authority, he’s got a twinkle in his eye, he’s sometimes a bit elliptical. So you have that but also have this youthful energy and jubilance. So he brings that twinkle, mischief, authority, and power, but at the same time brings far more youthful energy to the film. You understand why he would be your favourite teacher and be someone you believe is an extraordinary wizard.”

The movie will see the return of Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander who will be recruited by Jude Law’s Dumbledore to try and track down Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). Together they’re going to have to hunt down the evil wizard who was of course once a friend, and even a potential lover, of Dumbledore’s. In the Harry Potter novels, there were references to Dumbledore’s epic battle with Grindelwald and we’re finally going to get to see the fight on the big screen. Maybe not in this film, but hopefully in the third or fourth one.

Here’s the cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Ezra Miller will also make a return as the film’s first ‘villain’ (for lack of a better term) Credence, as will Katherine Waterston’s Tina Goldstein, who has been reinstated as an Auror andDan Fogler’s Jacob Kowalski, the only ‘No-Maj’ (which means non-magician) of the group. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will also feature newcomers to the franchise such as Zoe Kravitz’s Leta Lestrange, Callum Turner who will be playing Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them successfully managed to expand the Harry Potter universe and I am looking forward to getting right back into that magical world.
