Hugh Jackman Is Thinking About Returning As Wolverine In The MCU Says Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan, The Winter Soldier himself, has revealed that Aussie actor Hugh Jackman has been considering coming back as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We were all pretty sad to see Hugh Jackman say goodbye to Wolverine. He played the role for many years and he certainly played the part perfectly and demonstrated with Logan how thought-provoking and touching a superhero movie can really be. However, fans the world over were not only sad to see him leave the role but we were also a bit upset that we never got to see him share the screen with the MCU’s biggest heroes in one of Marvel’s big tentpole blockbusters. But, ever since Disney acquired the rights to the X-Men franchise from Fox people have been wondering whether the deal could pave the way for Hugh Jackman’s big return as Wolverine.

During an Ace Comic-Con panel (via Comicbook.com) Sebastian Stan revealed that Hugh might not be completely done with the role yet. “Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman,” he stated. “I didn’t know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ I don’t know. But he said a couple of things to me and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to get into trouble with somebody.”

It seems as if Stan doesn’t really care that much about getting into trouble since he then continued. “I asked him because I kept thinking he said whether or not that was, Logan, was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever and he said to me, well I think he publicly said out there, which was like he’s been thinking about it and it’s been on his mind. So, I don’t know, he may be.”

This is all very interesting since Jackman’s been quite clear that he’s done with the character and that Logan was his very last performance as Wolverine. “It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together,” he told Collider back in December.

“And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there,” he finished.

It does seem to me at least that Jackman is done with Wolverine although Stan’s comments do make me wonder whether Jackman’s been having second thoughts on the whole thing. I personally would like them to rest the character for a bit and maybe do some more with X-23 instead. I’d love to see her on-screen again after Dafne Keene’s brilliant performance as the Wolverine clone in Logan.
