Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is quickly gearing up to be my most anticipated film of 2019. Yes, it’s another The Rock movie…
This film promises to be the adrenaline-fuelled cinematic event of the year and I for one cannot wait. It’ll also feature some great action from two of the biggest action movie stars of our day: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham.
Many people were wondering how the Fast & Furious franchise might continue after eight movies, and the answer was pretty simple: give The Rock and the Stath their own movie.
The formula is a pretty simple one: The Rock + The Stath + Idris Elba + cars = summer blockbuster smash hit, and the film is already tracking to make a lot of money.
The film will see them reprise their roles from the Fast & Furious franchise, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, and they’re forced to work together in order to stop Idris Elba’s cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton from destroying the world.
In all honesty, this sounds epic to me, and when I learnt that Universal was making this movie only one thought came into my head: “Take my money now!”
I then found out that the film was going to be directed by Deadpool 2 and John Wick director, David Leitch, and I immediately booked my seats.
Here’s the film’s plot: “Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.
“But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.
“Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.”
All sounds very good to me.
